Hi ,
Hope all is well with you. I've got a cold and I'm feeling a little sorry for myself but I'm sure I'll be fit and well next week.
I'd like to share a video I've made to support parents and teachers with children who seek pressure on their heads. Sometimes children will push their head into their parent whilst they are sat next to each other on the sofa or seek rough play with their friends. Some children will push their head into the bed or cushions. Other children will try to do headstands. Deep tactile pressure on the head can feel calming so it makes sense that some children do these things.
It is understandable if your natural reaction as a parent is to discourage this and you would of course be right to protect your child's head. It can be hard however, to simply stop a sensory behaviour, especially if the child needs the sensory input to feel good. It can be more helpful to replace the behaviour with an alternative activity that provides deep pressure.
If any of this sounds familiar then click on the video at the end of this email to view my Head Bump demonstration or click here.
Hope that's helpful for some of you.
